Job summary

CVR Energy, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to support plant operations and the Mechanical Integrity group.

The role includes assisting with capital and expense projects, and coordinating with project engineering to optimize reliability and reduce downtime. The position requires a BS in Mechanical Engineering and 0–2 years of relevant experience, with internship exposure in oil & gas or chemical processing preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Internship in oil & gas or chemical processing is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of economics, project management, and customer service is required.
  • Strong mechanical principles, troubleshooting, and collaborative skills are needed.
  • MS Office, including Excel, proficiency required.
  • Ability to adapt to change and meet department/plant goals.
  • English fluency (oral and written) required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for plant operations.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering to troubleshoot and propose process unit improvements.
  • Work with drafting and engineers on small project scopes to size equipment.
  • Assist in planning and executing unit shutdowns and startups; provide data/drawings to vendors/maintenance.
  • Provide project engineering/management for capital and expense projects as assigned.
  • Research and monitor upcoming technological changes to improve plant strategies.
  • Report progress to supervisor weekly and as needed.
  • Operate in environments near potentially volatile chemicals.

Job description

Under supervision, the incumbent at this level receives "on-the-job" training in various phases of engineering through specific assignments under close supervision. Tasks are routine in nature to provide experience and familiarization with the staff, engineering methods, practices, and programs of the company. Work is reviewed for accuracy, adequacy and conformance with prescribed procedures.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer I will aid the Principal Mechanical Engineer in monitoring unit operations, completing capital and expense projects in support of plant operations, and assisting the Mechanical Integrity group with API inspection resolutions and ASME calculations. Assignments will include small project design to increase the productivity and efficiency of the plant, assistance to Project Engineering, and contributions to planning and the development of strategies for equipment to optimize plant reliability and reduce downtime.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
Experience Requirements
  • With education requirements, 0-2 years of relevant work experience required.
  • College engineering internship preferred, oil & gas or chemical processing internship highly desirable
  • Desire to work in a manufacturing environment and to address mechanical issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of economic principles, project management, and customer service required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical principles, troubleshooting, and collaborative skills required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office software packages, including Excel, required
  • Demonstrated competencies of priority setting and organizational agility

Major Accountabilities
  • Provide Technical support for Plant Operations
  • Work in a team environment with operations, maintenance, and engineering to maintain and troubleshoot problems as well as proposing applications for the process units
  • Work directly with drafting and other engineers on small project scopes to receive appropriate design and size of equipment needed
  • Assist in the planning and execution of unit shutdowns and startups. Administer plant performance test runs as needed, provide any operational data or drawings required to vendors or maintenance if needed
  • Provide project engineering and management for capital and expense projects as assigned
  • Research and monitor upcoming technological changes to improve future strategies within the plant
  • Consistently keep supervisor advised of progress via oral and weekly written reports
  • Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals
