Job summary

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) invites applications for an Engineer I, II, or Senior Engineer to join the Engineering Department at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

The position will be filled based on qualifications and business needs. The engineer will perform and oversee electrical engineering duties to support transmission and distribution systems, coordinating with the Director of Engineering and other departments.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering required.
• Alternative BS degrees with utility experience will be considered.
• Rank (I, II, or Senior) based on years of experience.
• Engineer I – at least six months of industry experience; Engineer II – at least three years; Senior Engineer – at least seven years.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee engineering responsibilities to support the Engineering Department and to improve and maintain the Cooperative’s transmission and distribution systems.
• Coordinate engineering and technical support with the Director of Engineering, System Engineer, Planning Engineer, and other departments.

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for an Engineer I, II, or Senior Engineer to work at our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. There is one position available and will be filled at one of the three levels. This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected, and business needs at the time of hire.

Valley Electric Association, Inc., (VEA) is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations. VEA is a participating transmission owner and load-serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).

VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), and Valley Communication Association (VCA).

The Engineer position is responsible for performing and overseeing specific engineering responsibilities in support of the Engineering Department and to improve and maintain the
Cooperative’s transmission and distribution systems. This position will also coordinate engineering and technical support with the Director of Engineering, System Engineer, Planning Engineer, and other departments throughout the Cooperative.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Alternative Bachelor of Science degrees with utility experience similar to the Key Responsibilities outlined in this job description will be considered.

Experience: Position level (Engineer I, II, or Senior) shall depend on years of experience.

• Engineer I – At least six months of industry experience with an electric utility or consultant firm is preferred.
• Engineer II – At least three years of industry experience with an electric utility or consultant firm is preferred.
• Senior Engineer – At least seven years of industry experience with an electric utility or consultant firm is preferred.
