Position: Engineer (I & II)

This full-time position supports engineering functions in the Village’s Public Works Department and reports to the Engineering Manager. Responsibilities include both office and fieldwork, such as plan reviews, plan preparation, construction inspections, project management, and consultant coordination.

Engineer I

An entry-level role assisting with engineering tasks like plan reviews, construction inspections, and project management for public infrastructure projects. Provides an opportunity to gain practical municipal engineering experience.

Engineer II

A mid-level position managing complex engineering projects, overseeing construction, conducting plan reviews, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Leads municipal projects and mentors junior engineers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with the public and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles as applied to municipal infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Strong communication skills and project management abilities.
  • Experience with GIS, budgeting, and grant writing is a plus.
JOB DUTIES/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage capital projects including roads, utilities, stormwater, parks, and infrastructure.
  • Review and prepare engineering plans and documents.
  • Conduct inspections and manage contracts.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and agencies.
  • Assist in developing CIP and budgets.
  • Apply for and manage grants.
  • Engage with residents and businesses for project updates and concerns.
  • Maintain project records and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Participate in meetings and prepare reports.
  • Assist in design standards, surveys, and specifications.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field; ability to obtain within one year.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) certification and registration as an Engineering Intern (E.I.) in Illinois.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • 3-5 years of engineering experience, PE license in Illinois preferred or obtainable within one year.
SALARY:

Engineer I: $83,458 - $100,149 (hiring range), up to $116,840 (range)

Engineer II: $96,820 - $116,184 (hiring range), up to $135,548 (range)
