Job summary

RK&K is seeking a Transportation Engineer in Fairfax, VA to design and analyze roadway facilities, including new roadways, widenings and multimodal improvements. You will prepare plans, profiles, cross sections, and cost estimates, while coordinating with other disciplines to solve design challenges.

The role requires up to 2 years of roadway design experience, a BS in Civil Engineering, and an Engineering Intern license in VA or the ability to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience in roadway design.
• Knowledge of basic roadway design principles.
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Engineering Intern (E.I.) license in VA or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Design and analysis of horizontal and vertical alignments.
• Prepare plan, profile, cross section, and detail sheets.
• Design temporary traffic control plans.
• Calculate quantities and prepare construction cost estimates.
• Support preparation of design documentation.
• Support preparation of specifications packages.
• Work with other disciplines on creative solutions to design challenges.

RK&K is currently hiring a Transportation Engineer for our team in Fairfax, VA. As a Highway/Roadway Engineer with RK&K, your responsibilities will include design and analysis of transportation facilities. Projects will include, but not be limited to new roadways, widenings, resurfacings, and multimodal improvements.
Essential Functions

• Design and analysis of horizontal and vertical alignments
• Prepare plan, profile, cross section, and detail sheets
• Design temporary traffic control plans
• Calculate quantities and prepare construction cost estimates
• Support preparation of design documentation
• Support preparation of specifications packages
• Work with other disciplines on creative solutions to design challenges

Required Skills & Experience

• Zero (0) to Two (2) years of experience inroadway design
• Working knowledge of basicroadway designprincipals
• Bachelor of Science inCivil Engineering or related field
• Engineering Intern (E.I.) license in VA or ability to obtain within six (6) months

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Roadway widening or new alignment design
• Sidewalk or shared use path design
• Previous internship experience
