Job summary

RK&K is hiring an Engineer to our Construction Management team in Tampa or Lakeland, Florida. This position will work within our Construction Management group under the direction of an RK&K Senior Project Engineer on an active $270M roadway reconstruction project in Polk and Pasco Counties.

Ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering and can obtain EI certification within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• EI certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist on-site inspection of construction activities for conformance with plans, specs and safety.
• Document daily construction activities, quantities, and conditions in reports.
• Maintain organized project records: submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, change orders.
• Support status reports, schedules and cost tracking updates.
• Participate in project meetings and communicate issues to senior staff.
• Review plans, specs and CPM schedules; support QA/QC and field measurements.
• Monitor site safety and report unsafe practices to supervision.
• Shadow engineers and managers to expand construction-management knowledge.

Job description

Essential Functions:

Field Support and Observation

• Assist with on-site inspection of construction activities to verify compliance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.
• Document daily construction activities, quantities, and conditions in inspection reports.

Project Documentation

• Maintain organized project records, including submittals, RFIs, correspondence, meeting minutes, and change order logs.
• Support preparation of status reports, schedules, and cost tracking updates.

Coordination and Communication

• Participate in project meetings with contractors, engineers, and agency representatives.
• Communicate observations and issues clearly to senior staff for resolution.

Technical Support

• Review construction plans, specifications, and CPM schedules with guidance from the Senior Project Engineer.
• Support quality assurance/quality control for work in place, including material verification/testing, testing coordination with others, and field measurements.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance

• Monitor site conditions for adherence to safety protocols.
• Report on any unsafe practices or conditions to supervisory staff immediately.

Learning and Development

• Shadow senior engineers, inspectors, and construction managers to gain exposure to construction management practices.
• Proactively seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge of construction methods, codes, and standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Position requires an EI certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Prior construction internship experience
