Job summary

The position will assist the Resident Engineer in providing day-to-day management and contract administration of roadway and structure projects constructed by private contractors. The position is also responsible for the supervision of lower-level technicians. Specific duties will include but not be limited to performing project field inspections, preparing monthly/final pay estimates, creating, reviewing, and evaluating supplemental agreements and claims, ensure compliance with both NCDOT and external environmental agency erosion control and permit requirements, resolve constructability issues, and serve as DOT project representative for formal and informal meetings with contractors, utilities, local officials, media, and the general public.In this position, the selected applicant will be expected to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing and be able to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment. Experience with computers, electronic tablets, Sharepoint, and HICAMS is preferred. You will be expected to apply Department safety standards and program to operations. You may be exposed to hazards including construction equipment, high traffic volumes, and heights over water or traffic and will be expected to work outside in varying temperature and weather conditions. Performing moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing is needed for this position. You may need to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
