Job Summary/Objective:

Southwire's applications engineering team plays a critical role in servicing high volumes of residential and commercial customers, as well as supporting the rapid growth of industrial, OEM, and utility end users in North America and internationally. The CableTechSupportTM Services was established with the mission of Re3TM: Respond, Rectify, and Restore electrical systems using Reinforced, Resilient, and Reliable Solutions. This large engineering team provides industry-leading consultation and technical support. We are seeking a subject matter expert with extensive experience in commercial, residential (retail), and mega data center markets to develop innovative and value-added wire and cable solutions, and to initiate field service solutions that enhance safety, eliminate pain points, and reduce project costs.

The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities with company goals, driving specifications in the commercial, residential, and infrastructure segments. The SME will interface directly with contractors and electricians, lead innovation efforts, and collaborate with sales, operations, and product management to deliver value-added solutions to electricians, contractors, engineers, project owners, and EPCs. The candidate should have commercial experience and be proficient in designing and implementing commercial-scale service solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Drive innovation to provide the best technical and value-added product and system solutions for commercial, residential, and infrastructure markets.
  2. Identify user pain points during the product lifecycle and translate them into new engineering innovations, including patented products, and document features, functionalities, and performance for submission into the Stage-Gate process.
  3. Review complex electrical wiring designs in AC or DC, including accessories and system connectivity, to ensure optimal installation procedures and field solutions.
  4. Develop and launch new service solutions such as cable repair kits, nitrogen purging services, labor-saving tools, and testing recommendations.
  5. Utilize application knowledge and customer feedback to create online calculators, whitepapers, and technical references available on southwire.com/services/cabletech-support-services.
  6. Promote CableTechSupportTM Services through customer training videos, whitepapers, articles, webinars, and conference speaking engagements.
  7. Develop sustainable solutions to improve field efficiencies, accelerate growth, and increase market share.
  8. Serve as an internal SME to build organizational and external capability.
Education, Experience, and Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in research, development, application support, or product engineering in the wire and cable, power, utility, manufacturing, or electrical industry. Hands-on experience with cable installation, splicing, terminations, and connectors is essential.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience, with extensive field experience in residential, commercial, telecom, or utility installations. R&D background is desirable.
  • Additional certifications such as Master Electrician or Certified Cable Splicer are preferred.
