Qualifications

  • 10+ years in engineering experience related to Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, or Electrical Industry.
  • Hands-on experience with cable installation and connectors is a must.
  • Research and development background is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative wire and cable solutions for commercial and residential applications.
  • Interface directly with contractors and lead innovation efforts.
  • Initiate and launch novel service solutions to increase efficiency.

Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:

Southwire’s applications engineering team plays a critical role in servicing high-volume residential, commercial, industrial, OEM, and utility customers both in North America and internationally. The CableTechSupport™ Services was established with the mission of Re3™: Respond, Rectify, and Restore electrical systems using Reinforced, Resilient, and Reliable Solutions. This engineering team provides industry-leading consultation and technical support.

We are seeking a subject matter expert with deep experience in commercial, residential (retail), and mega data center markets to develop innovative wire and cable solutions, and field service initiatives aimed at increasing safety, reducing pain points, and minimizing project costs.

The role involves aligning engineering activities with company goals, driving specifications in various market segments, and interfacing directly with contractors, electricians, and internal teams to deliver value-added solutions. The ideal candidate will have commercial experience and be proficient in designing and implementing large-scale service solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Drive innovation to provide the best technical and value-added solutions for commercial, residential, and infrastructure markets.
  2. Identify user pain points throughout the product lifecycle and translate them into new engineering innovations, including patented products, with detailed feature and performance summaries.
  3. Review complex electrical wiring designs and provide best-in-class installation procedures and field testing solutions.
  4. Develop and launch new service solutions, such as cable repair kits, nitrogen purging services, and testing recommendations.
  5. Create technical content, including calculators, whitepapers, and reference documents, leveraging extensive electrical system knowledge and customer feedback.
  6. Market CableTechSupport™ services through customer training videos, whitepapers, articles, webinars, and conference presentations.
  7. Develop sustainable field solutions to improve efficiency and market share.
  8. Serve as an internal SME to enhance organizational capabilities and external customer support.
Education, Experience, and Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in research, development, application support, or product engineering within the wire and cable, power, utility, manufacturing, or electrical industry
  • Hands-on experience with cable installation, splicing, terminations, and connectors

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience, including extensive field experience in residential, commercial, telecom, or utility installations
  • Research and development background
  • Master electrician and/or certified cable splicer certifications are highly desirable
