Job summary

Kier Group plc is seeking an Engineer for its Design Team in the UK, focusing on highways structures maintenance and new-build schemes. The role includes producing designs, supporting delivery from feasibility to inspection, and conducting site visits across London, Birmingham, and Manchester with remote working options.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree (or HNC/HND) and is approaching Chartered status, experienced with UK standards and Eurocodes.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering and progression toward chartered status.
• Experience in inspection, assessment, design and construction of highway structures to UK standards.
• Proficiency with design software and Eurocodes in highway design.
• Valid driving licence and occasional site visits expected.

Responsibilities

• Produce technical designs, drawings, and documentation for bridge and highway projects.
• Support Lead Engineer from feasibility to construction inspection.
• Conduct site visits and structure inspections for data collection.
• Contribute to value engineering and technical innovation.
• Mentor and support development of technicians and graduates in the team.

Details Location: London / Birmingham / Manchester (Remote working available with occasional office visits) Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Flexible hours available) Note: We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship for this role.

As an Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our Design Team, focusing on highways structures maintenance and new-build schemes.

• Producing technical designs, drawings, and documentation using cutting-edge software for bridge and highway structures projects
• Supporting the Lead Engineer in managing scheme delivery from feasibility to construction inspection
• Conducting site visits and structure inspections to gather essential project data
• Contributing to technical excellence and innovation, including value engineering solutions
• Mentoring and supporting the development of technicians and graduates within the team

What We're Looking For This role is perfect for you if:

• You hold a, degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering and are approaching or are a Chartered/Incorporated member of a relevant professional institution (MICE/MIStructE or equivalent),
• You have experience in the inspection, assessment, design, and construction of highway structures to UK standards
• You're proficient with relevant design software and have experience working with Eurocodes in highway structure design
• You hold a valid driving license and are comfortable with occasional site visits
• You're a collaborative team player who enjoys building strong relationships and sharing knowledge
