Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks an Engineer for the Signals & Train Controls unit, stationed at 2 Broadway, with responsibilities spanning planning, design, technical specifications, and reporting throughout project lifecycles.

You will analyze data, review designs, and conduct feasibility studies while mentoring junior staff. A BS in engineering and 4+ years’ experience are required; NYS PE is preferred. The role may require travel across sites and some after-hours work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the capital design and construction process; proficient in current design and engineering software and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Designs/supervise various aspects of a project for MTA Signals & Train Controls.
  • Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as-builts to create engineering designs.

REPORTS TO: Senior Design Manager

WORK LOCATION: 2 Broadway

HOURS OF WORK: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or as required (7.5HR/ DAY)

JOB FAMILY: ENG GRADE: 003

SALARY RANGE: $94,669to $118,335

DEADLINE: Open Until Filled

May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)

Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.

MTA Construction & Development (C&D) is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of all capital construction projects across the MTA region. Telework

This position is eligible for telework, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Job Summary

The engineer will be involved in all MTA C&D project lifecycle phases for the Signals & Train Controls Business Unit, including planning, scheduling, analysis, design, technical specifications, and reports.

Responsibilities

The role will entail some of these typical duties:

  • Designs/supervise various aspects of a project for MTA Signals & Train Controls
  • Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as-builts to create innovative engineering design projects.
  • Reviews designs, tests, assesses materials, and performs/reviews engineering calculations.
  • Conducts site visits to obtain existing conditions and correctly identify design and construction risks.
  • Embraces mentoring from senior staff.
  • Adheres to corporate quality control standards within the discipline.
Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in the appropriate Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection).

Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Competencies
  • Registered NYS Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • Knowledge of the capital design and construction process.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in current design and engineering software and Microsoft Office are required.
  • Experience visiting the field for initial scope/survey and construction oversight preferred.

Additional Information

Final salary is determined by experience, skill set, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
