Job summary

Altec Industries, Inc. in Mount Airy, NC is seeking an entry-level engineer to join our design and service support teams. Under guidance of experienced engineers, you will learn product lines, apply training, and contribute to team projects.

You will design final products to customer specs, create custom designs, and develop electrical and hydraulic systems while traveling up to 25% as needed. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• ABET/EAC certified Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a Master’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Preferred)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to work with team members and work with minimal supervision
• Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time, potentially on short notice, which may include flying

Responsibilities

• Learns Altec’s product lines and systems/rules/processes required for different Engineering roles at Altec.
• Applies formal engineering training to enhance the effectiveness of the Engineering Group and Altec’s position within the product line
• Participates and contributes as part of team-oriented design, manufacture and customer service/support efforts
• Operates with entry-level decision-making latitude within the scope of an assignment
• Knows and applies fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in the engineering field
• Communicates with customers on issues of technical specifications, product design and operation as appropriate
• Supports Operations, Sales, and Service
• Interfaces directly with Suppliers and Customers
• Learns and utilizes Lean principles to improve products and processes
• Participates on various sizes of Altec projects
• Designs final product to customer specification
• Creates custom designs for unique applications
• Designs structural and mechanical components
• Develops electrical and hydraulic systems

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The incumbent works in an entry-level capacity under the guidance of more experienced engineer and associates.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Learns Altec’s product lines and systems/rules/processes required for different Engineering roles at Altec.
• Practices prudent engineering and effectively apply formal engineering training adding to the overall effectiveness of the Engineering Group and enhancement of Altec’s position within the product line
• Participates and contribute productively as part of Altec’s team-oriented design, manufacture and customer service/support efforts
• Operates with appropriate entry-level decision-making latitude within the scope of an assignment
• Knows and applies fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in the engineering field

Basic Qualifications
