Job summary

A historic membership organization in Kirkland, Washington is seeking a Building Engineer to manage and troubleshoot building mechanical and electrical systems. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, emergency response, and ensuring safety and comfort in the building. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in HVAC or refrigeration, along with a high school diploma. Job description

Job Title: Building Engineerh3>
Reports Directly to: Director of Facilities
Description

Operates, adjusts, regulates, maintains and trouble shoots the building mechanical and electrical systems, to ensure proper functioning with respect to safety, economy and comfort. Duties include but not limited to:

  • Check operation of building mechanical equipment including boilers, chillers, air handlers, water pumps, fan coils and heat pumps and adjust as needed.
  • Check all interior and exterior lighting, repair and replace as needed.
  • Check all refrigeration equipment and record temperatures.
  • Checks and make general repair to electrical distribution systems up to 480 volts.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical system including repairs, oils, greases mechanical parts including replacing or adjusting belts, actuators and fuses when required.
  • Monitor building energy management systems making adjustments as necessary for occupancy comfort and economical operation.
  • Respond to emergency situations and seasonal occurrences such as snow removal.
  • Contact and assist when required outside contractors to complete warranty and preventative maintenance contract work.
  • Contact suppliers to purchase materials and repair parts and maintain inventory as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications, Education, Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum High School diploma
  • Candidates must have at least 3 years of practical experience in HVAC or refrigeration system operation and maintenance, general building maintenance and an operating knowledge of related electrical systems.
  • Candidates must have the ability to interpret blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.
  • Good oral and written communication.
  • Candidates must have the ability to deal with a variety of situations requiring independent action, judgment and initiative in a self-directed managing environment.Shifts might include day, night or weekend work.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must stand/walk for majority of shift.
