Schedule: M-F 7:30am - 4:00pm (every 3rd week is 24/7 on-call)

Overview

The Building Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the optimal operation, safety, and reliability of all building systems. This role involves a mix of reactive and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a high standard of facility performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform reactive and preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air handler units, and building control systems (approx. 70% reactive / 30% preventative).
  • Provide diagnostic and troubleshooting support for plumbing and electrical systems to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of building infrastructure to identify structural issues, system malfunctions, and potential hazards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations, system failures, or breakdowns, implementing swift and effective solutions.
  • Prepare cost estimates for repairs, upgrades, and capital improvements, ensuring budget alignment and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and construction teams on new building projects and system integrations.
  • Perform routine and complex repairs on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to maintain operational integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Utilize building automation systems (BAS) to monitor and optimize energy usage and system performance.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 3+ YOE
  • Proven experience in building operations, maintenance, or engineering within commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in building management systems (BMS/BAS) preferred, preferably Siemens.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure during emergencies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Certifications such as EPA Universal, CFC, NAPE, or relevant trade licenses preferred.
Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or at heights as needed.
  • Availability for on-call rotations and occasional overtime for emergency repairs.
