Job summary

Warren CAT seeks an Engine Shop Technician III to deliver high‑quality repair service on engines and support customers with punctual, safe, and reliable work. The role requires leading and mentoring junior technicians, performing Dyno operations on gas and diesel engines, and completing detailed service reports daily.

Typical schedule is four 10‑hour shifts, with responsibilities spanning disassembly, assembly, diagnostics, and repair approvals, following CAT guidelines and safety policies as

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
  • Knowlege of CAT product lines and engine systems.
  • Complete work steps assessment successfully.
  • Forklift/man lift certification prior to use.
  • Ability to work varied shifts and drive tooling readiness.
  • Proficiency with diesel/gas engine electrical systems and diagnostic tools.
  • Capable of handling hand and power tools with precision.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently complete assigned jobs to meet flat rate times and re-do metrics.
  • Work safely and follow WCAT safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete related paperwork and access required databases accurately.
  • Operate and perform Dyno operations on gas and diesel engines.
  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules.
  • Remove/install parts, disassemble/assemble components, inspect to ensure quality.
  • Understand CAT reusability guidelines.
  • Perform engine alignment and warranty repairs per CAT guidelines.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot engine problems and propose repairs.
  • Test and verify correct operation of repairs.
  • Mentor Engine Techs I and II as needed.
  • Submit accurate service reports and timecards daily.
  • Perform engine/component rebuilds without supervision.
  • Lead team as assigned: coordinate shop tasks and liaison with supervisor.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Job description

The Engine Shop Technician III (410) is responsible for providing high quality repair service on equipment, in order to respond to customer needs in a positive, caring and timely manner and to ensure maximum value for work performed.

Typical Work Schedule: 4, 10-hour shifts

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Consistently complete assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate times and re-do metric.
  • Work safely and follow all WCAT safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete related paperwork and access databases required to complete job (work order, parts order, JSA, DBS, SIMS, SIS web, STW) accurately and timely.
  • Operate and perform Dyno operations proficiently on all gas and diesel engines.
  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
  • Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, clean and inspect and adjust assemblies with ability to self-monitor work quality.
  • Understand and apply CAT reusability guidelines.
  • Perform engine alignment.
  • Perform warranty repairs using CAT warranty guidelines.
  • Proficiently and accurately diagnose and troubleshoot problems on gas and diesel engines, give recommendations for repairs and make all critical engine repairs and adjustments.
  • Apply specific failure analysis and procedures in determining proper diagnosis.
  • Test and verify correct operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Mentor Engine Techs I and II as needed.
  • Accurate and timely service reports and timecards daily.
  • Perform engine and component rebuild without supervision.
  • As assigned performs team leader responsibilities: coordinates day to day shop assignments, liaison between supervisor and shop technicians and all task assigned by the supervisor.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer AA in Applied Diesel Technology.
  • This position requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and the ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Manufacturing software and Order processing systems.
  • Successfully complete Work steps assessment.
  • Will be certified prior to operating a forklift and/or man lift.
  • Must be able to obtain or currently posses’ adequate tooling to perform duties.
  • Flexibility to work various schedules including shift work.
  • This position requires mastery CAT product knowledge and in-depth skills of the electrical, electronic systems, and components of gas and diesel engine.
  • Mastery of all hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, laptops, diagnostic software and cranes and rigging equipment.
