Job summary

Hawthorne Cat in San Diego is seeking an Engine Service Tech 1 to troubleshoot mechanical problems in Caterpillar and allied products. Under supervision, you will repair, maintain and rebuild equipment in shop or field and prepare quotes for service orders.

Essential duties include diagnosing systems with diagnostic tools, guiding junior technicians, and performing welding, plumbing, and electrical repairs.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid California Class 'B' driver’s license if vehicle requires it.
• 0–3 years of experience in repair of on-highway trucks and buses.
• Expertise in all phases of on-highway truck service operation.
• Familiarity with Caterpillar product line and allied products.
• Must furnish all hand tools required for diagnostics and repair.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots Caterpillar and related systems.
• Uses diagnostic equipment to adjust truck engines and systems.
• Makes warranty recommendations.
• Performs welding, fabrication, plumbing, alignment and electrical repairs.
• Guides and supervises lower-level technicians in repairs.
• Performs other duties as directed by foreman or service manager.
