Job summary

Hawthorne Cat seeks a skilled Field/Shop Technician to diagnose, repair, and service Caterpillar and allied equipment. You will diagnose engines, powertrains, electrical and hydraulic systems, using Cat diagnostic equipment and DBS for parts and time tracking.

The role requires strong planning, communication, and team collaboration to manage multiple projects and control costs. A California driver’s license is required, with training provided at our Rancho Bernardo and Kearny Mesa locations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–5 years experience repairing Caterpillar or heavy equipment.
• Prefer apprenticeship completion or technical school diploma in diesel technology.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair Caterpillar and allied equipment.
• Analyze and test engines, powertrains, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Plan and organize multiple projects to control costs.
• Enter labor time daily in DBS.
• Write service reports documenting repairs performed daily.
• Order parts and use DBS for parts.
