Job summary

Cowboy Space Corp. in the United States seeks an Engine Lead to own the engine program lifecycle from architecture to flight and refurbishment. You will serve as chief engineer, program manager, and lead systems engineer, directing a multi-disciplinary team across propulsion, mechanical, avionics, software, and test engineering.

You will collaborate with vehicle integration, manufacturing, test, and launch operations. You must stay focused, move fast, and learn on the fly.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in design, build, or test of rocket engines, turbopumps, or valves.
  • Experience on development engine programs through lifecycle (concept through development, qualification, or operations).
  • Ability to integrate a multidisciplinary team spanning propulsion, mechanical, electrical, avionics and software.
  • Strong fundamentals: compressible flow, thermodynamics, combustion, controls, cryogenics, instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with fluid analysis tools (Python, NPSS, AMESim, Thermal Desktop, EES, REFPROP).
  • Strong data analysis and data reduction for engine health/performance.
  • Familiarity with aerospace fasteners, seals, tubing, fittings, and COTS hardware.
  • Hands-on fabrication and assembly of engine hardware.
  • Strong communication and teamwork.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Own the engine program from development through flight.
  • Develop engine operating procedures and limits with ops teams.
  • Define and manage schedule and budget for the engine program.
  • Define the verification and qualification plan for engine requirements and manage its execution.
  • Participate in test and launch ops to make real-time engineering decisions on risks.
  • Own the engine upgrade plan for reliability, rapid reusability, and faster production rate.
  • Drive design-for-reuse decisions: inspection intervals, life-limited parts, refurbishment procedures, and acceptance criteria for reflown hardware.
