Job summary

City of Cambridge's Department of Human Service Programs seeks a Substitute Teacher to support 7 preschool and 7 afterschool programs, helping maintain schedules and engaging children. You will assist teachers with activities, supervise safety in classrooms and outdoor play, and support lunch and cleanup duties, reporting concerns to staff.

A High School Diploma or GED is required, 18+ years old, and applicants must pass background checks and hold First Aid & CPR certification or obtain within 6

Qualifications

• Experience working with children preschool through 5th grade.
• Meets or exceeds EEC regulations for Substitute Teacher.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Successfully pass EEC Background Records Check (CORI, SORI, DCF and Fingerprinting).
• First Aid & CPR certified or obtain within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Support a positive learning environment by engaging with children in activities and routines.
• Assist teachers in facilitating learning activities, sometimes one-on-one or in small groups.
• Ensure safety during outdoor play, field trips, and transitions between locations.
• Assist with classroom duties such as lunch and snack preparation and cleanup.
• Refer behavior or parent concerns to teachers and maintain professional demeanor.
