Job summary

Sid Jacobson JCC in New York is seeking an After School Counselor for offsite programs in Herricks, Centereach and Searingtown School Districts. The role focuses on creating a safe, engaging environment for children ages 5-12 after school.

The ideal candidate will have 0-1 year of experience, an associates degree, and solid communication and teamwork skills. Availability for background checks and OCFS training is required.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years’ experience working with children ages 5-12.
• High School Degree.
• Willing to submit to all background checks required by NYS.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Strong team-building skills.
• Detail oriented and able to multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Meet the individual needs of children by engaging with them through play, exploration, and learning opportunities.
• Communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with parents, guardians, and fellow staff members.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment where children feel valued and supported.
• Assist in designing and maintaining an After School space that supports active supervision and meets the developmental needs of children.
• Support children in completing their schoolwork, and offering guidance and encouragement as needed.
• Communicate frequently with Site Director and Assistant Directors.
• Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times, following all JCC and OCFS safety guidelines.
• Participate in staff meetings and contribute to team planning and reflection.
• Complete the required number of annual training hours in accordance with New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Site Director or program leadership.
