Principal Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

The After School Counselor is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students during after-school hours. The counselor will provide supervision, facilitate activities, and support students' social, emotional, and academic development. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with children and adolescents.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Supervision and Safety:
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students under your care.
  • Supervise and monitor students during after-school activities, including sports, art, and free time.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Behavior Management:
  • Foster a positive and respectful atmosphere within the program.
  • Address behavioral issues promptly and constructively, using established protocols.
  • Promote and model positive behavior and conflict resolution skills.
• Communication and Collaboration:
  • Maintain open and effective communication with co-workers and Director.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive program.
• Administrative Duties:
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of program materials and spaces.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
• Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, child development, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in a supervisory or educational role.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Background check and child protection clearance (as required by state or local regulations).

Since its inception in 1927, the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Binghamton, NY has grown to become an essential part of the Broome County community. As a full-service, non-profit organization, the JCC provides educational, cultural, recreational, and physical fitness programs to enhance the quality of life for all ages, from infants to senior citizens. The JCC's facility houses a natatorium with a 2250 sq. ft. pool, gymnasium, small fitness center, men’s and women’s health clubs, steam, sauna, a fitness loft with spin bikes and Pilates reformers, stage, auditorium, and more. Over 200 children are served daily at our award-winning Early Childhood Center. Our year-round educational childcare includes UPK, after-school program, summer camp, and youth sports offerings.

The 8-acre land also features outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts, pavilion, nature preserve, soccer field, and three age-appropriate playground facilities.
