Job summary

Sidwell Friends School is seeking dedicated Program Assistants for our Lower School Extended Day program. This part-time role focuses on providing a safe, engaging, and educational after-school environment for PK–4th-grade students in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities include supervising activities, assisting with homework, planning daily activities, and maintaining clear communication with parents and staff. The position is non-benefits eligible with a flexible, supportive work setting.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience working with elementary age children in a structured setting (camp, school, or childcare).
• Available to work 3 or more days per week (Mon-Fri).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to engage children and interact with all stakeholders.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during activities and ensure their safety.
• Assist with homework and study materials.
• Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate activities (PK–4th grade).
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and team members.
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions; assist with attendance tracking and supplies.
