Job summary

Chess Wizards in Austin, TX is seeking enthusiastic instructors to lead after-school chess sessions for elementary students. You will teach using our curriculum, foster a fun and safe classroom, and travel between local schools for each session.

Ideal candidates have experience with children, strong chess knowledge, reliable transport, and weekday afternoon availability (2:00–5:00 PM). Training provided, with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
• Ability to lead an independent, engaging class with interactive sessions.
• Positive, kid-friendly demeanor.
• Strong chess fundamentals with clear explanations of moves and basic tactics.
• Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life scenarios.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Weekday afternoon availability for 1–5 classes per week (2:00–5:00 PM).
• Commitment to school safety protocols and policies.
• Strong punctuality and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
