Job summary

Job description

The Engagement Coordinator (Temporary) will work closely with the Great Lakes chapter and volunteer network (including stewards, monitors, chapters, and partner organizations) to assist the Engagement Manager with the implementation of volunteer strategies as a key component to sustainable Great Lakes habitat conservation across Audubon's priority geographies. They will directly engage and communicate, remotely or in-person, with chapters and volunteers supporting conservation efforts across the five-state region including IL, IN, MI, OH, and WI. This position will play a critical role in growing chapter and volunteer engagement with Audubon’s conservation across the Great Lakes region by reaching broader audiences and building community connections through network activities.

The Engagement Coordinator will assist the Engagement Manager and collaborate cross-functionally with the Conservation Team, Communications Team, as well as Policy Team in connecting chapters and volunteers to habitat restoration, conservation science, and advocacy efforts across priority Great Lakes geographies. The Engagement Coordinator will primarily focus on program management support that includes community science, advocacy, and network activities to uplift the work of the Great Lakes chapters and volunteers. The Engagement Coordinator will work closely with fellow Engagement team members to support the Audubon network of chapters and members to build their capacity and connect to conservation priorities in the region. This role does not require travel.

Length of Assignment: June to September 2025

Location: Remote, required to be based in the Great Lakes Region: IL, IN, MI, OH, WI

Compensation:

$17.00-$19.00 / hour = National

$19.00 – 21.00/ hour = (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Develop engagement best practices and outreach materials document for the Michigan chapter network, including GIS storymap content on the importance of protecting Michigan’s public lands.
  • Analyze and synthesize findings from annually reported Audubon chapter activities by gathering data and collaborating with Audubon staff.
  • Draft a narrative report and presentation slides describing findings and recommendations from the Audubon chapter activities analysis.
  • Gather and disseminate engagement outreach materials and resources on the following conservation initiatives: Bird-Friendly Communities, World Migratory Bird Day, Stewardship, and Public Lands, in addition to others sourced by the Audubon chapter network.
  • Support Audubon chapter network meetings, events, and programs, including Monthly Chapter Leader Calls, specific chapter-led initiatives, advocacy days, chapter council meetings, and other initiatives sourced from the Audubon chapter network.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Conservation, Communications, Policy, and Engagement staff to document and execute engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.
  • Other job-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, ecology, natural resource management or related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in supporting event planning, volunteer management, coordination with stakeholders, and general nonprofit administration.
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving experience.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally on diverse teams with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to implement anti-racist practices in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, including engaging and motivating diverse audiences.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with the public and staff of multiple partner organizations.
  • Ability to maintain contact databases with attention to detail.
  • Interest and ability to learn conservation science and management practices is required.
  • Cultural competency across equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn new digital systems and software.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule with occasional after-hours or weekend meetings and events.
