Job summary

EDP Renewables North America is seeking a seasoned energy trader to lead short- and medium-term asset optimization across ERCOT and SPP. You will develop and implement power scheduling and hedging strategies to maximize the value of our merchant portfolio in wholesale markets.

The role requires hands-on experience with risk-aware trading, CRRs/TCRs, and data analytics, plus collaboration with risk and asset operations teams. Hybrid Houston office 3 days/week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering or STEM; graduate studies are a plus.
• Minimum 6+ years of experience in power scheduling, trading/hedging, and basis management in ERCOT and SPP.
• Hands-on experience structuring and negotiating short-term off-take agreements for wholesale power and related products.
• Knowledge of North America power markets related software (e.g. YES Energy, Enverus, Genscape).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; Power BI knowledge preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement robust power scheduling and trading strategies in ERCOT and SPP.
• Develop and manage hedging strategies for wholesale electricity prices and locational basis.
• Oversee day-ahead scheduling activities, power hedges execution, and basis hedges procurement (CRRs/TCRs).
• Optimize EDPR NA merchant portfolio to align with Energy Management goals.
• Develop prop trading strategies including virtuals, power futures, and FTRs.
• Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and pricing risks; recommend value-maximizing actions.
• Collaborate with Risk and Compliance to monitor exposure and ensure policy adherence.
• Report on portfolio performance and trading books, including prop trading; leverage data analytics.
