Minimum to Midpoint Pay Rate:$27.57 - $35.84 / hour

Summary

The Energy Technician specializes in programming BAS databases and sequences of operation to provide the highest level of efficiency. This includes monitoring, troubleshooting, and refining existing installations via Continuous Commissioning and modifying programming and graphics, as necessary. Trains and assists Plant Operations Technicians in troubleshooting vital comfort, energy, indoor air quality, safety and scheduling concerns related to HVAC system and control. Is included on the Team that operates the central energy saving computer systems to monitor facilities for correct electrical performance, analyzes malfunctions and takes appropriate action. Assists in the implementation of energy conservation of HVAC, temperature, and lighting components and systems, in a safe and cost-effective manner that support the goals of Lee Health.

The Energy Technician is a skilled specialist focused on optimizing the performance and efficiency of Building Automation Systems (BAS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and integrated controls like HVAC, electrical, and lighting systems across Lee Health facilities. The role demands expertise in controls programming, system diagnostics, continuous commissioning, and networking. Key responsibilities include programming and maintaining BAS/EMS platforms, analyzing system data, troubleshooting, and making improvements to support energy observation, indoor air quality, and patient comfort. The technician also ensures compliance with relevant regulations at the state, federal, and local levels.

Requirements

Education:High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or technical certification in IT Networking, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Technologist, Building Automation, or related field preferred.

Experience:A minimum of five (5) years of experience, training, or a combination of both in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; energy savings methods and systems; and computer operations, including hands-on experience with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting networked building control systems. Thorough knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing skills. Knowledge of building, fire, and life safety codes preferred.

Certification:Vendor-specific BAS certifications (e.g., Automated Logic, Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls METASYS) preferred.

License:Florida Drivers License within 30 days of hire required.

Other:Ability to diagnose and repair HVAC control systems malfunctions, requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modification in multiple languages of system software. Ability to read blueprints and schematics. Ability to operate in a hybrid environment involving hands-on fieldwork with electrical, mechanical, and control systems, combined with specialized computer programming, network configuration, and analytical tasks. The role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple facilities and technical disciplines. Strong knowledge of automated lighting controls, low voltage systems, and associated sensors and actuators is essential. Proficiency in utilizing and modifying existing BAS/EMS features to implement energy conservation measures, optimize schedules, and reduce overall energy consumption. Experience with building automation software platforms (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, Tridium) to program control sequences for HVAC, lighting, and other integrated systems. Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with a clients internal IT department, ensuring seamless integration and compliance with organizational network policies. Familiarity with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting basic network components like switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points. Awareness of network security best practices, access controls, secure passwords, and basic data protection principles relevant to control systems to minimize vulnerabilities. Understanding communication protocols common in the building automation industry, such as BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, and LonWorks IP, and how they interact with standard IT networks.
