Job summary

Luminate is seeking an experienced energy storage professional for a senior leadership role in advisory services across North America. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee technical and commercial analyses, and drive stand‑alone and hybrid storage projects from development through operation.

The role combines deep engineering expertise with commercial judgment, guiding client engagements, and mentoring junior staff within a respected technical consultancy focused on energy

Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of broader experience within the power or renewable energy industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary efforts and teams in providing technical and commercial advisory services for utility-scale and distributed storage projects.
  • Perform technical due diligence supporting project finance and acquisitions.
  • Conduct development advisory and owner's engineering activities.
  • Evaluate technology and system design; review EPC and O&M contracts.
  • Assess project risk and provide mitigation strategies; oversee construction and commissioning.
  • Support project financing with commercial and technical analyses; communicate with developers, lenders, and utilities.

Job description

Luminate is seeking an experienced energy storage professional to join our growing practice. This is a senior-level opportunity for someone who combines deep technical expertise with commercial judgment and enjoys solving complex challenges alongside developers, investors, lenders, utilities, and other industry leaders.

As a Manager or Director, you will play a leading role in delivering Luminate's advisory and independent engineering services for stand‑alone and hybrid battery energy storage projects throughout North America. The position offers significant responsibility, meaningful client interaction, and the opportunity to help shape one of the industry's most respected technical advisory firms.

Your title and responsibilities will be aligned with your experience, expertise, and leadership capabilities.

What You'll Do

You will lead multidisciplinary efforts and teams in providing technical and commercial advisory services throughout the lifecycle of utility‑scale and distributed energy storage projects, including:

  • Technical due diligence supporting project finance and acquisitions
  • Development advisory and owner's engineering
  • Technology and system design evaluation
  • EPC, equipment supply, and O&M contract reviews
  • Project risk assessment and mitigation
  • Construction and commissioning oversight
  • Performance testing and operational assessments
  • Commercial and technical support for project financing
  • Review of project economics and techno‑economic analyses
  • Collaboration with developers, independent power producers, EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, lenders, investors, utilities, and public agencies

Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, exceptional communication skills, sound project management, and the ability to lead multiple complex engagements while establishing standards and mentoring junior team members.

What We're Looking For
  • Minimum five years of direct experience with utility‑scale or distributed battery energy storage projects
  • Ten or more years of broader experience within the power or renewable energy industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline; advanced degrees, certifications, and/or professional licensure (e.g., PE) a plus
  • Strong understanding of integrated BESS design and applicable industry standards, including UL 9540 and NFPA 855
  • Experience managing projects and leading technical teams
  • Practical knowledge of EPC, equipment supply, O&M, LTSA, and related project agreements
  • Familiarity with common storage revenue structures, including tolling agreements, merchant strategies, hedging, energy arbitrage, ancillary services, and capacity markets
  • Strong understanding of project economics and techno‑economic modeling
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel periodically to client and project sites
