Job description

Energy Storage-Electrical Commissioning Engineer I

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer I to join our Energy Storage and Solutions Group to provide electrical technical support throughout the entire construction project. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will interact with staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated, and efficient with a high level of integrity and confidentiality is vital to your success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical lead and support for electrical portions of work project
  • Figure out the best layout of collection system; including consideration of constraints such as overhead/underground, follow roads/cross country, and junction box locations
  • Review manufacturer’s data to determine extent of scope for electrical portion of project; including wiring requirements and electrical characteristics (i.e. grounding requirements, power factor ranges, lightning protection requirements, generator outputs, etc.)
  • Verify that construction is in agreement with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and QA/QC
  • Lead the electrical engineering design and equipment procurement through use of submittals, transmittals, and requests for information
  • Provide technical expertise to all parties concerned
  • Ensure subcontractors understand the scope of project during bidding process and provide electrical engineering resource throughout the project
  • Communicate with local utilities to ensure the project can interconnect to the electrical grid
  • Perform loss calculations (100% output/annualized)
  • Develop one-line diagrams of collection a system and substations, as well as standard details of electrical construction that are typical to Mortenson projects

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • This is a traveling field position
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and run multiple project tasks
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law, generally accepted business practices, construction techniques, and project management practices
  • Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Positive professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Interpret and communicate Mortenson policies effectively
  • Open to change based on diverse input and feedback
  • Effectively work with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels
  • Consistent record of including diverse team members when assigning challenging and high-profile tasks
  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code a plus

PREFERRED:

  • Electrical construction management or electrical design experience preferred
  • Utility experience preferred

The base compensation range for this role is: $79,000 - $106,700 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%) Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skill, and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
