Job description

SUMMARY


Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer I in our Civil Group. The ideal candidate should be able to interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility, resourcefulness, proactivity, professionalism, and confidentiality. The Project Engineer will review, analyze, manage, and resolve field coordination issues with project team members and participants.


NOTE: This position requires travel across the United States to various project sites, with regular rotations home every 3 weeks for 5 days. The position is remote, and candidates can be based anywhere in the U.S.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft workers.
  • Implement the pre-construction quality plan.
  • Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fees and expenses.
  • Develop and maintain tracking lists and logs related to materials, testing, inspections, and non-conformance reports.
  • Manage, create, and distribute contract documents.
  • Establish handling procedures for electronic documents such as RFIs and correspondence.
  • Incorporate processes for project closeout.
  • Manage testing and inspection processes for quality management.
  • Implement a three-phase inspection system.
  • Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and testing procedures.
  • Notify Project Manager and Superintendent of non-conforming results.
  • Manage submittals, including setup, approval, transmittals, and processing.
  • Coordinate subcontractor details, verify insurance, and request final payments.
  • Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders.
  • Update as-built documents and incorporate subcontractor documentation.
  • Mentor and evaluate field engineers.
  • Determine alternative work methods as needed.
  • Coordinate safety and compliance.
  • Maintain project schedules and ensure timely completion.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years related construction experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional attitude and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Salary Range: $82,000 - $110,700, with higher ranges for specific locations (Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Washington, D.C.). The actual salary depends on experience, skills, and location.

  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Positions are typically posted for at least 5 days, averaging 44 days.
