Mortenson Construction is seeking an experienced Controls Manager I or II for our Energy Storage group. You’ll lead project execution, design leadership, and customer relations while supporting early-stage energy storage offerings and commissioning across projects.

This role involves remote work with up to 25% travel; compensation varies by experience and location. You will interact with project teams, trade partners and customers to ensure successful testing, turnover and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience.
• Knowledge of HV/LV systems, control schemes and substations.
• Familiarity with SCADA/PLC/HMI systems and networking.
• Understanding of safety codes (NEC, OSHA) and industry practices.
• Experience with PPAs, LGIA and interconnection processes.

Responsabilités

• Review design docs to ensure contract alignment and resolve conflicts affecting installation or other trades.
• Provide technical electrical support and commissioning guidance.
• Review contractual design, commissioning, testing, and turnover requirements.
• Coordinate plans with engineers and resolve discrepancies.

Energy Storage - Controls Manager I or II (Commissioning Manager)

Location: Remote, up to 25% travel

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Controls Manager I or II to join our Energy Storage group responsible for providing project execution and design technical leadership, as well as effective customer relationship management with new and existing customers. Support our continued growth by aiding in the development, roll‑out and execution of early‑stage Energy Storage planning and development service offerings and providing technical support throughout the testing and commissioning of Energy Storage projects.

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

RESPONSIBILTIES

• Review design documents to ensure compliance with contract expectations, noting and resolving issues or conflicts that could impact installation or other trades involved with project
• Technical Electrical Support
• Review contractual design, commissioning, testing, and turnover requirements.
• Understanding of PPA and Interconnection design, testing and turnover requirements.
• Coordinate plans and specifications with engineers, identifying and clarifying any discrepancies
• Provide operational analysis and be able to provide technical guidance to Mortenson project teams and trade partners for troubleshooting performance issues
• Provide updates and guidance to customers regarding their questions/concerns regarding the performance of projects
• Provide guidance to Mortenson project teams with regards to what issues are/are not in Mortenson's contractual scope to address/rectify
• Ability to simplify complex technical issues to audiences that are not as technically knowledgeable.

Project team support

• Coach, mentor and train field personnel, forepersons, and superintendents
• Establish and nurture teamwork environment
• Ensure crews have technical resources and support
• Develop leadership potential through appropriate task assignments and career growth opportunities
• Implement Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety Program while at project site
• Assist with technical troubleshooting during commissioning as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience
• Low, medium, and high voltage technical knowledge proficiency
• Specialized knowledge/experience in an area of electrical DC systems, low voltage AC systems, controls, and substations
• Current driver's license
• Detailed understanding of utility‑scale power plants utilizing inverter based resources and associated control schemes, ideally experience developing such control schemes
• Understanding of networking and communication systems as they pertain to utility‑scale installations
• SCADA equipment programming and troubleshooting such as PLC's, HMI's, Network switches
• Working knowledge of latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and OSHA codes and standards and industry safety requirements and methods
• Electrical Construction Management- Physical electrical understanding and Cost issue understanding
• Understanding of testing associated with PPAs, LGIA's, and Transmission System Operator requirements
• Strong Teamwork Orientation - Leader of people and issues, especially in a group and with a customer and many other technical parties
• Ability to work through technical and ambiguous electrical problems organize and manage multiple project tasks
• Technical consensus building capabilities, working with internal / external partners to define technical direction
• Technical risk understanding and how to manage it.

The base pay range for this role is $125,600 - $188,400 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
