Job summary

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer in our Energy Storage group that will provide electrical technical support throughout the entire construction project.

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience and location, and the role requires 100% travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code preferred.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Ability to travel up to 100%.
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical lead and support for electrical portions of the project.
  • Determine best layout of collection system including constraints such as overhead/underground, follow roads/cross country, and junction box locations.
  • Review manufacturer's data to determine extent of scope for electrical portion of project, including wiring requirements and electrical characteristics.
  • Verify that construction aligns with electrical engineering design drawings and QA/QC.
  • Manage electrical design and equipment procurement through submittals, transmittals, and RFIs.
  • Provide technical expertise to all parties concerned.
  • Ensure subcontractors understand project scope during bidding and provide electrical engineering resource throughout the project.
  • Communicate with local utilities to ensure interconnection to the electrical grid.
  • Perform loss calculations (100% output/annualized).
  • Develop one-line diagrams of collection system and substations, as well as standard details of electrical construction.

Job description

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer in our Energy Storage group that will provide electrical technical support throughout the entire construction project.

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

This position requires 100% travel.

We do NOT offer any visa sponsorship for this role, this includes F1/OPT visas.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical lead and support for electrical portions of work project
  • Determine best layout of collection system; including consideration of constraints such as overhead/underground, follow roads/cross country, and junction box locations
  • Review manufacturer's data to determine extent of scope for electrical portion of project, including wiring requirements and electrical characteristics (i.e. grounding requirements, power factor ranges, lightning protection requirements, generator outputs, etc.)
  • Verify that construction agrees with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and QA/QC
  • Manage and lead the electrical engineering design and equipment procurement through use of submittals, transmittals, and requests for information
  • Provide technical expertise to all parties concerned
  • Ensure subcontractors understand the scope of project during bidding process and provide electrical engineering resource throughout the project
  • Communicate with local utilities to ensure the project can interconnect to the electrical grid
  • Perform loss calculations (100% output/annualized)
  • Develop one-line diagrams of collection a system and substations, as well as standard details of electrical construction that are typical to Mortenson projects
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code preferred
  • Basic understanding of construction techniques and project management practices
  • Current driver's license
  • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Detail-oriented to manage multiple project tasks
  • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, project, and web applications
  • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Active listening skills and effective communication
  • Ability to travel up to 100%
Electrical Engineer I
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Previous related internship experience a plus
  • The base pay range for this role is $80,900 - $109,300
Electrical Engineer II
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum two years in electrical construction management or electrical design
  • The base pay range for this role is $91,700 - $123,800

(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
