Job summary

Xcel Energy in Denver is seeking a Resource Planning Analyst I/II to develop and maintain long-range resource planning models, providing quantitative analyses for generation options and regulatory filings. You will collaborate with Forecasting, Risk Management, Trading, and various supply teams to incorporate short- and long-term considerations into optimal resource plans.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and energy industry experience with large optimization/forecasting models; candidates

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in engineering, finance, economics, operations research, mathematics or business.
  • Two years energy industry experience or equivalent with large optimization/forecasting models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop/run/maintain long range resource planning model. Ensure input assumptions accuracy and verify simulations and optimizations.
  • Produce comprehensive quantitative analysis for executives and regulatory filings: energy production, emission, and capital budget forecasts.
  • Implement stochastic (Monte Carlo) simulations to identify total system costs variance around generation alternatives.
  • Interface with Forecasting, Risk Management, Trading, Gas Supply, Coal Supply, Transmission Operations and others to incorporate short-term and long-range considerations.
  • Ensure expansion plan and production cost modelling is accurate with fuel costs, production capability, and contract terms.
  • Research new techniques in quantitative optimization for resource planning analysis.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging generation technology for future portfolio inclusion.
  • Follow developments in federal/state policies affecting resource plan.
