Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a Resource Planning Analyst I/II to develop, run, and maintain long-range resource planning models for the company’s operating subsidiaries. You will prepare quantitative analyses of generation options, emissions, and capital budgets, and work with multiple groups to inform optimal resource plans.

The role requires building robust models, applying stochastic methods, and staying current on fuel costs, capacity, and policy changes.

Qualifications

  • Two years of energy industry experience or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, economics, operations research, mathematics or business.
  • Experience with large optimization/forecasting models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop/run/maintain long-range resource planning models with accurate inputs and verified simulations.
  • Produce quantitative analyses for executives and regulatory filings (energy production, emissions, capital budgets).
  • Implement Monte Carlo simulations to quantify costs and risks of generation options.
  • Collaborate with Forecasting, Risk Management, Trading, Gas and Coal Supply, Transmission Operations and other groups to inform optimal plans.
  • Ensure expansion plans and production cost models reflect current fuel costs and capacities.
  • Research new quantitative optimization techniques for resource planning.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging generation technology and policy developments affecting planning.
