The Energy Group represents clients across the energy value chain, including producers, refiners, renewable energy companies, shippers, marketers, airlines, end users, consumers, importers, exporters, and trade associations.

The associate will assist on contested matters before FERC, including rate cases, complaint proceedings, and evidentiary hearings before Administrative Law Judges, and settlement negotiations, as well as appeals in the D.C. Circuit and other Federal courts. On the counseling side, the associate will take a meaningful role in advising oil and natural gas clients on FERC jurisdiction, tariff and rate issues, certificate and abandonment matters, open access and capacity release rules, market behavior rules, and compliance programs. Transactional work will include transportation service agreements, commodity purchases and sales, and related agreements in the oil and natural gas industries. Additional responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing regulatory and policy developments and helping prepare client alerts, presentations, and business development materials.

The qualified candidate has at least three years of experience practicing energy regulatory law, including litigating before FERC. It is preferred that the candidate have experience with counseling clients in the oil and natural gas industry, especially hands-on experience regarding complex discovery, related motions practice, and development of testimony, affidavits, and briefing. Familiarity with crude oil, natural gas pipeline, and tariff matters is a plus.

The successful candidate has excellent oral and written communication skills, strong legal research, analysis, and drafting abilities, along with outstanding academic credentials. The candidate can manage several matters at once, use sound judgment, and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must hold a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to and in good standing with the District of Columbia Bar or be eligible for admission by waiver.
