Job summary

Job description

Venable LLP's nationally recognized Political Law group seeks an entry-level associate (JD Class of 2025 or 2026) or judicial clerk to join the practice in the Washington, DC office.

The qualified candidate will have a demonstrated interest in political and election law, government investigations, exceptional writing and research skills, and a commitment to excellent client service. Prior experience working on a campaign, working on Capitol Hill, working at a lobbying or advocacy firm, or in a state government is a plus, as is any experience with campaign finance law, lobbying disclosure and regulations, government ethics, and gift rules. The associate will work as part of a collaborative team, advising political organizations, nonprofit entities, businesses, and high-net-worth individuals on complex legal and regulatory matters related to navigating the political process at the federal, state, and local level.

Venable's Political Law practice counsels a wide variety of clients, including candidates, advocacy groups, businesses, trade associations, lobbying firms, high-net-worth individuals, and federal and state super PACs. We also serve as general counsel to a number of prominent advocacy organizations and help tax-exempt organizations with corporate governance, executive compensation, IRS restrictions on lobbying and political activities, fundraising, and other issues. Our attorneys are adept at delivering creative solutions to complex problems and providing advice tailored to clients' needs and goals.

Candidates must have excellent academic credentials, strong writing skills, and sharp analytical ability. All submissions must include a resume and law school transcripts. Candidates must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and must be admitted to, or pursuing admission to, the DC Bar.

The salary range for associate positions is $215,000 to $355,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of job-related factors including, but not limited to, years of related experience, level of education, skills, credentials and certifications, responsibilities and performance.
