Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minneapolis invites students to join the Gas and Electric Distribution Planning internship, offering exposure to electric and natural gas planning. You will work on forecasting, decarbonization strategies, and regulatory filings under experienced mentors.

Ideal candidates are energized by energy systems, data analytics, and infrastructure planning, with coursework in power systems and economics. Hybrid work and growth opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher enrolled in an accredited college or university.
• Pursuing a degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Public Policy, Energy Systems, Data Analytics, Finance or related field.
• Able to work full-time during summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during school year (up to 20 hours/week) at the designated location and in-person.

Responsibilities

• Support analytical, strategic, and technical projects related to distribution system planning and utility resource planning.
• Collaborate with experienced planners, engineers, and data analysts to evaluate future energy needs and regulatory filings.
• Gain hands-on experience with utility data, forecasting methods, energy system planning concepts, and decarbonization.
• Analyze distributed energy resources, electrification trends, load growth, and customer-focused solutions.
