Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking a Senior Resource Specialist (Energy Market Analytics) to apply data science to energy market challenges and support the wholesale power portfolio. You will help modernize energy data management processes to enable emissions‑free planning.

Responsibilities include building an Energy Data Warehouse, developing forecasting and risk analytics, and creating dashboards to support financial reporting and decision making in a hybrid work

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in a related field with 8 years of relevant experience (or advanced degree with 6 years).
• Experience in wholesale energy supply/demand structures and market analysis.
• Financial modeling and analysis of wholesale electricity markets.
• Knowledge of valuation, risk management, and generation-asset risk.
• Desirable: Western US wholesale markets, renewables/storage assets, and PPAs.
• Desirable: Python, R, or SQL; data visualization with Tableau/PowerBI.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to develop an Energy Data Warehouse and automate data pipelines.
• Lead project teams to test analytical enhancements meeting requirements.
• Provide quantitative analytics for wholesale power portfolio: price forecasting and optimization.
• Support energy risk analytics: forward curve validation, VaR, stress tests, and portfolio optimization.
• Develop analytics tools and dashboards to improve financial reporting and decision making.
