We currently have a temporary opening for a Senior Resource Specialist.

  • Location: Union Station - Los Angeles, CA
  • Duration: Temporary position - assignment is up to 6 months
  • Hybrid Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday with alternating Fridays off
  • Pay: $76.15 - $84.71

The Senior Resource Specialist will work in a very busy team-oriented environment. In this role, the Senior Resource Specialist (Power Marketer) is an experienced professional with extensive experience in Power Trading or Origination. Highly quantitative and strategically minded, you will be responsible for identifying opportunities to transact a variety of physical and financial power and environmental products including Energy, Resource Adequacy, Import Allocations, Renewable Energy Credits, Carbon Allowances, and Transmission Capacity to mitigate financial and operational risks within Metropolitan's wholesale power portfolio.

These tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct market and regulatory research and provide in-depth market analysis for strategic decision-making and development of hedge strategies.
  • Collaborate with market operations and scheduling coordinators to ensure efficient execution of energy trades and compliance with risk management limits.
  • Work closely with energy analytics staff to contribute to the development of energy market fundamentals models.
  • Deep knowledge of ISO/RTO markets, especially CAISO, spark spreads, heat rates, transmission rights, option valuation, day-ahead and real-time markets, scheduling mechanics, and CAISO settlements.
  • Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities with counterparties, including independent power producers {IPPs), municipal utilities, and large commercial/industrial customers.
  • Negotiating complex, multi-year agreements such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Tolling Agreements, and Resource Adequacy (RA) contracts.
  • Maintaining a deep network within the energy industry to stay ahead of upcoming Request for Proposals (RFPs), as well as manage Metropolitan's solicitations.
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems and analytical tools to evaluate the long-term value and risk exposures.
  • Exercise sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of retail and wholesale energy supply structures and markets, including CAISO expertise.
  • Experience navigating ETRM platforms (e.g., Allegro, Endur, OATI, or PCI).
  • Extensive financial modeling and analytical skills
  • Understanding of financial derivatives (Swaps, Options, Futures, and FTR/CRRs).
  • Deep experience in wholesale renewable energy and battery storage analytics and valuation, including expert knowledge of power purchase agreements and associated contracting structures.
  • Expertise in valuation and risk management approaches for generation assets including a detailed understanding of how various plant-specific operational characteristics and constraints drive value and risk.
  • Deep knowledge of Western US wholesale electricity markets including regional trends/dynamics and impacts on asset value and risk.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel for pivot tables/charts, ad hoc data analysis, and report-quality visualizations with familiarity of Power Bl
  • Demonstrated ability to operate either independently or within a close-knit team amid a fast-paced results-oriented professional environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience presenting senior leadership and managing cross-functional stakeholder groups
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior team members

The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of energy commodity markets (Power, Natural Gas, Renewables, etc.) and western US wholesale markets, contracting for both short and long-term transactions, and 6+ years of energy industry experience in Power Trading or Origination.
