The Sustainability Program Office (SPO) advances SHC’s sustainability initiatives, minimizing environmental impact and promoting community health and well-being.

The Energy Manager coordinates the SHC Energy Management Plan, manages energy projects, rebates, building optimization, and oversees carbon and energy data reporting.   • Preferably 10+ years of relevant experience, managerial experience mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles for decision-making and problem-solving throughout projects.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining energy management plans, overseeing projects from inception to completion.
  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Background in facilities management is necessary; sustainability background helpful. Possible backgrounds include Systems Engineering, Facility Engineering, Civil Engineering, Facility Management, Building Management Systems, Energy Engineering.
  • This is a hybrid position based in Menlo Park, CA, with career growth opportunities within a dynamic team.
  • This role reports to the Executive Director, under the Senior Vice President of Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction.

Overview: Responsible for executing energy, emissions, and water strategies, partnering with Facilities Systems Engineering, performing efficiency studies, and leading employee engagement campaigns on conservation.

Locations: Stanford Health Care

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage utility budgets and relationships with providers.
  • Lead energy efficiency programs, develop master plans, conduct audits, and oversee measures implementation.
  • Evaluate and report on energy & water metrics.
  • Develop proposals, manage projects, and present outcomes to leadership.
  • Participate in Utilities Subcommittee and develop resiliency plans.
  • Review construction projects for energy savings and compliance.
  • Negotiate with contractors and service providers.
  • Develop employee engagement and education programs.
  • Collaborate on new technologies and decarbonization efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; relevant experience may substitute.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive related experience; 7 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Energy management, industry regulations, building systems, project management, vendor negotiations, communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) preferred.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
