The Opportunity
Map of Ag is an innovative agricultural data business, working with food processors, brands and retailers across the food industry and farm finance to help them measure and improve environmental sustainability on their associated farms.
The Agricultural Sustainability Analyst is a key role within our business consultancy team, and works alongside business development and technology teams, supporting with project delivery to customers while also ensuring that Map of Ag’s products meet the needs of customers and the wider market.
Location: Hamilton New Zealand, or remote from any other New Zealand region, by arrangement.
Salary: 85,000 -105,000 NZD depending on experience
This role services the New Zealand and Australian markets. Travel around both New Zealand and Australia will be required.
Scope and Responsibilities
The Agricultural Sustainability Analyst will be responsible for the following key result areas:
- Working with clients to understand key product requirements and translate these into specifications for the technology team. This could cover a range of features, including farm data collection pages, farm and customer reports, data integration or farm decision tools.
- Working within the consultancy team to provide technical input into project delivery, such as providing guidance to the technology team on how input data should be analysed or reviewing and verifying key results prior to reporting them to customers and farms.
- Interacting with customers to help them understand technical project outcomes, for example presenting greenhouse gas emission results, and providing commentary on what they mean and recommendations for further actions.
- Where required, support the management of customer project delivery. This would involve coordinating actions across the teams, with ongoing proactive communication with the customer.
- Assisting with the sales and pre-sales process, including understanding potential new customer needs, presenting to customers, working with the technology team to scope out the work involved to deliver this, and advise them of possible solutions.
- Understanding wider market demands and trends, how this aligns with Map of Ag’s product strategy and feeding this into internal product planning discussions.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- A relevant degree in agricultural science, agronomy, land management or environmental, accompanies by at least one post-graduate qualification or relevant professional accreditation or fellowship, or chartered professional membership.
- Prior experience in farm or agricultural business consultancy in at least two of New Zealand, UK, and/or Australia is essential.
- Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
Capabilities Required
To be successful in this role, the following capabilities will be required:
- Proactive communication with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across different teams, as well as clients.
- Strong attention to detail, with a desire to ensure product quality is always to the highest standard.
- Experience of working in livestock production systems, to provide the base knowledge for key product or technical discussions internal and externally.
- A moderate level of understanding of greenhouse gas (GHG) modelling methodologies with desire and learn more and upskill in this area.
- Confident in decision making, being comfortable to listen to customer requirements and make key product recommendations based on these.
- Ability to develop rapport and relationships with key individuals internally and externally, to gain their trust with decisions we make.
- Report writing or proposal writing skills to be able to contribute to client proposals, plans, and reports.
- Familiarity with Office 365 tools, and collaborative solutions such as Microsoft SharePoint, Azure DevOps and other web-based tools.
- Demonstrate the drive to help grow the business, including willingness to turn a hand to multiple tasks and situations which may sometimes be outside the usual job specification.
