Job summary

STO Building Group seeks an experienced Energy Marshall to support a mission-critical project in Cedar Rapids, IA. The role centers on energization and isolation, energy isolation standards, and auditing practices within a data center environment.

Ideal candidates bring a strong safety background, NFPA 70E certification, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to engineers and non-engineers alike. Collaboration and continuous improvement are expected across project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in energy isolation, safety, or a related field.
• NFPA 70E Certification.
• Experience with DC construction and commissioning standards and practices.
• Ability to understand and ensure the safe installation of electrical equipment across various voltages, including AC and DC systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teams to drive process improvements.
• Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
• Proficiency in auditing site practices against written standards.
• Familiarity with multiple energy sources, particularly in data centers, with emphasis on electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Ensures Constructing with Integrity through honesty, unity, safety and quality of work.
• Oversees commissioning process from pre-energization through project completion and turnover.
• Manages electrical room access permits and attendance.
• Ensures safe practices during energization and isolation activities.
• Verifies the commission plan and reviews quality reports.
• Completes pre-energization inspections.
• Responsible for the LOTO program on site.
• Audits energy isolation procedures for safety and efficiency.
• Acts as SME for energy isolation and guides teams.
• Attends High Risk Activity (HRA) / Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) meetings and supports procedure prep.
• Partners with project teams to implement continuous improvement.
• Communicates complex energy concepts to engineers and non-engineers.
• Audits site practices against standards and ensures compliance with LOTO and isolation norms.
