Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a student intern to join the Equipment & System Analytics team within the Energy Supply organization. The role offers hands-on experience with instrumentation design, data analytics, and AI-driven insights to optimize maintenance strategies across a generation fleet.

You will collaborate with engineers across disciplines, working in a hybrid environment and gaining exposure to real-world energy systems, risk analysis, and fleet decision support.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall2027).
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science.
• Minimal travel required within the state
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) / part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) at the designated in-person location per hybrid policy.
• Preferred: Experience with power generation.

Responsibilities

• Support instrumentation design and installation to monitor critical equipment failure modes.
• Support and enhancement of software applications used for Asset Performance Management with low-code tools.
• Use AI models to bring new efficiencies and interpret large data sets.
