Job summary

City of Commerce City is seeking an Energy Efficiency Specialist to shape energy policies and improve building performance across the city. You will monitor energy usage in city buildings and craft strategies to boost efficiency and electrification, guiding a decarbonization roadmap for commercial and residential properties.

Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, you will drive policy development, coordinate with E3 and Community Development, and lead community engagement events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability or related field required.
  • 2–5 years in sustainability, energy policy, planning, or building performance programs.
  • ICC Energy Inspector and Plans Examiner certification required or obtainable within 6 months.
  • LEED GA certification or equivalent required or obtainable within 6 months.
  • Combination of education and experience considered for essential duties.

Responsibilities

  • Track energy usage in city buildings and facilities.
  • Develop strategies to improve energy efficiency and electrification.
  • Lead citywide building energy guidelines and decarbonization roadmap efforts.
  • Coordinate policy development with Sustainability Manager and other departments.
  • Engage community through robust events to support climate action goals.

Job description

*This position is grant funded through the Denver Regional Council of Government (DRCOG) Building Policy Collaborative program. The duration of this appointment is guaranteed until fall 2029.

Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.

The hiring range is $83,592.60 - 92,880.67 / annually.

Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Natural Resource Management, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Two to five years of progressively responsible experience in sustainability, energy policy, planning, code implementation, or building performance programs. To have or be able to obtain ICC Energy Inspector and Plans Examiner certification. LEED GA certification or (equivalent LEED certification). If not currently certified, certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire. The City will provide support and resources to assist the selected candidate in obtaining the required certification. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.
