Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks an Energy Delivery System Operator Associate to support the transmission network under supervision. The role involves monitoring voltages and real/ reactive power flows, coordinating with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities, and preparing switching orders for equipment removal during maintenance.

Ideal candidates have a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience, with 1–2 years in substation operation or dispatching preferred.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
• High School diploma with 2 years experience operating a power system.
• Not required, but 1–2 years in substation operation, protective relaying, or distribution dispatching is desired.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and regulating system voltage levels and real/ reactive power flows.
• Assist in real-time operation of the AEP transmission system in coordination with the AEP SCC.
• Assist in real-time operation of distribution equipment inside the station fence with regional dispatch centers.
• Prepare basic switching orders and safety tagging for equipment removal for maintenance or construction.
• Direct switching operations under emergency conditions to restore service.
• Maintain a log of events and transactions.
• Observe and assist in operating the SCADA system.
• Monitor metering and communications facilities and report malfunctions.
• Monitor weather information system for severe weather and notify proper personnel.
• Record station entry/exit activity.
