We also specialize in energy benchmarking, Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) compliance, energy audits, and utility procurement. Job Description

We’re hiring a Business Development Manager & Energy Consultant to lead sales for solar and energy benchmarking services in DC and Maryland. This is a hybrid role that combines consultative sales, technical understanding, and relationship-building with commercial and multifamily property stakeholders.

This is not a plug-and-play sales job. Our industry is constantly evolving, and success in this role requires an inquisitive mindset, comfort with complex services, and a strong desire to understand before you sell.

If you’re a proactive communicator who thrives in a flexible, entrepreneurial environment and can move quickly while learning deeply, you’ll be a great fit.

Location: This position will be remote, but you must have easy access to the Washington, DC metro area for occasional site visits, meetings, and team / networking events.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and close warm leads while also generating new business through cold outreach and creative marketing
  • Learn and explain complex services like solar, BEPS compliance, and energy benchmarking in a consultative way
  • Join sales calls and develop proposals with the executive team
  • Build relationships with property managers, board members, and building owners
  • Attend networking events to build awareness and generate referrals
  • Maintain communication with clients throughout the sales process
  • Collaborate closely with internal team members to learn and evolve your approach
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients
What We’re Looking For
  • A curious, fast learner who asks questions and actively seeks understanding
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to learn and explain complex topics clearly
  • The ability to follow instructions, move quickly, and handle multiple leads and tasks simultaneously
  • Self-driven and highly organized — you’re not afraid to take ownership of your time and results
  • Comfort working remotely with consistent online presence and responsiveness
  • Previous success in business development, sales, or account management roles
  • Familiarity with solar, energy, or real estate is a BIG plus
Minimum Requirements
  • 2–3+ years experience in sales, business development, or a similar client-facing role
  • Familiarity with commercial energy solutions (solar, energy benchmarking, BEPS, etc.) is a plus
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and follow-through
  • Tech proficiency in Gmail, Google Docs, MS Office, Zoom, E-Signature Platforms and CRM software
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • Must have a quiet workspace, high-speed internet, and a reliable laptop
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary ($60k–$70k range) + commission
  • Significant earning potential with warm leads and scalable commissions, plus bonus commissions for hitting monthly and annual milestones
