The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property, and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values.

The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Construction Project Manager Level II in the Bureau of Facilities Management. Reporting directly to the Director of Construction, the successful candidate must be certified for Energy Management and Sustainability (EFS) with a specialization in Building Design + Construction or Operations + Maintenance. The candidate will: Maintain a management information system to provide data for the planning and control for project development. Responsible for visiting job sites and preparing a detailed preliminary scope of work, with project time and cost schedules. Coordinate all activities between the agencies and departments responsible for project completion. Review all schedules, reports and orders prepared by consultants, contractors and agencies to assure conformance with project completion dates. Review work performance and prepare management reports which stress significant problems. Resolve problems that arise in meeting schedules and costs. Work with Director of Construction and Design on the entire procurement cycle of a project scope

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER - 34202

Minimum Qualifications

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting one or more construction projects which must have a total cost of at least $300,000 for each of the five years of the required experience; or
  • One year of the experience as described in “1” above and a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U. S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management; or
  • One year of the experience as described in “1” above and a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect, issued by a board of examining engineers, architects, or landscape architects duly established and qualified pursuant to the laws of any state or territory of the United States; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and a combination of at least two years of experience as described in “1” above and the education as described in “2” above to equal a total of five years of education and experience. Matriculation in an undergraduate college degree program as described in “2” above may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits for one year of satisfactory full-time experience up to a maximum of three years of experience.

Note: Candidates must specify for each construction project they worked on: a description of the construction project, the time period they worked on the construction project, and the type of work they performed. Candidates must also specify the money allotted for the project.

Driver License Requirement: At the time of appointment to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

  • For Assignment to Level II, In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" above, candidates must have one additional year of satisfactory full-time experience working in Assignment Level I; or one additional year of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above.
  • For Assignment to Level III, in addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements for Construction Project Manager, candidates must have two additional years of satisfactory full-time experience working in Construction Project Manager Assignment Level I and II; or two additional years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in question "1" above and possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York which must be maintained for the duration of employment noting that if you have moving violations, license suspension or an accident record, you may be disqualified.

Preferred Skills

A candidate MUST show they have worked on at least 3 to 5 years of Energy Management Construction Projects or have an Energy Management Certification. Such as: LEED Green Associate (“LEED GA”) accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council (“USGBC”), LEED Accredited Professional accreditation from the USGBC with specialization in Building Design + Construction or Operations + Maintenance (“LEED AP BD+C” or “LEED AP O+M”), or Environmental Sustainability Professionals (“ENV SP”) certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. A valid Certified Energy Manager (“CEM”) certification from the Association of Energy Engineers (“AEE”) and at least one of the following valid credentials: LEED Green Associate (“LEED GA”) accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council (“USGBC”), LEED Accredited Professional accreditation from the USGBC with specialization in Building Design + Construction or Operations + Maintenance (“LEED AP BD+C” or “LEED AP O+M”), or Environmental Sustainability Professionals (“ENV SP”) certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (“ISI”). A Valid New York State Driver’s License. The ability to read constructions drawings and documents, Blueprints, climb ladders, and crawl spaces.
