Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Trainee dedicated to learning the fundamentals of energy center operation and maintenance at the Columbus Plant Energy Center. The role involves classroom training for industrial maintenance and boiler operation, plus on-the-job training with licensed boiler operators at the Powerhouse.

The Trainee will learn energy center systems, safety, GMP compliance, and SOPs while preparing for the Ohio Steam Engineers Exam to become a 3rd class Stationary Engineer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required, plus a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
• Must have Stationary Steam Engineer (SSE) license in Ohio.
• Strong math, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to learn highly technical processes and operate complex equipment.

Responsibilities

• Achieve fundamental understanding of Energy Center processes, including operation, maintenance, and safety.
• Achieve classroom learning to provide theoretical aptitude for Energy Center processes.
• Achieve boiler operating hours and training to take the Ohio Steam Engineers Exam to become a 3rd class Stationary Engineer.
• Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner, reporting accidents/incidents and adhering to all safety and quality procedures.
• Operate and maintain all Energy Center systems and machines.
• Maintain various hand tools and equipment, drills, winches, micrometers, calipers, torches, welders, lathe, mill, multimeter, etc.
• Ensure compliance with applicable FDA (GMP), USDA, OSHA and Abbott regulations and SOPs.
• Work within Maximo CMMS to write and execute WOs, check out spare parts, and document completed work with hours.
