Abbott Laboratories in Columbus, OH, is hiring a Trainee to learn the fundamentals of energy center operation and maintenance at the Powerhouse. You will undergo classroom training and on‑the‑job instruction alongside licensed boiler operators.

The role focuses on boiler and steam systems, chilled water, safety procedures, GMP compliance, and building familiarity with the Maximo CMMS. A two‑year technical degree or equivalent and an SSE license in Ohio are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
• Excellent math, written/verbal communication, self-motivation, and interpersonal skills.
• Must have Stationary Steam Engineer (SSE) license in Ohio.
• Ability to learn and operate highly technical processes.

Responsibilities

• Understand Energy Center processes including operation, maintenance, and safety.
• Attend classroom training for energy center processes and boiler operation.
• Achieve boiler operating hours and training to take the Ohio Steam Engineers Exam to become a 3rd class Stationary Engineer.
• Operate equipment safely and report accidents in line with GMP and safety procedures.
• Operate and maintain all Energy Center systems and machines.
• Maintain hand tools and equipment and ensure compliance with GMP, SOPs, and safety.
• Work within Maximo CMMS to write/execute WOs and document labor hours.
