Job summary

Ursa Major, a leading propulsion developer, seeks a candidate to contribute to propellant development for solid rocket motor systems. The role involves hands-on work with energetic materials, formulating and testing solid propellants, and supporting production-scale transitions under senior guidance.

The ideal candidate has a background in chemistry or related fields and a strong safety mindset, with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience or relevant coursework or laboratory experience involving energetic materials, polymers, chemical processing, or fluid mechanics.
  • Ability to follow engineering guidelines to break down problems and execute systematic solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication for documenting work and presenting findings to team members.
  • Proven ability to work productively within cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Unwavering commitment to safety when handling hazardous energetic materials.

Responsibilities

  • Support energetics development programs by completing assigned technical tasks to ensure milestones and schedules are met.
  • Prepare status updates for project leads and management on assigned tasks, tracking progress against goals.
  • Assist in developmental formulation, mixing, casting, and testing of solid propellants to evaluate performance and stability.
  • Apply knowledge in energetic materials and combustion to assist with tasks under senior guidance.
  • Process and analyze material property and test data to verify compliance with performance requirements.
  • Utilize tools, protocols, and templates to assist propellant design and evaluation.
  • Assist senior engineers in scaling propellant formulations from lab to production.
  • Participate in optimizing laboratory equipment and processing techniques for safety, yield, and quality.
  • Draft detailed test procedures, lab reports, and manufacturing batch records.
  • Assist in RCA and fault tree evaluations for non-conformances and testing anomalies.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to execute daily operations safely and effectively.
