Job summary

Dorchester County Public Schools is seeking a Substitute Custodian to perform school and office cleaning, minor maintenance, and groundskeeping to keep a safe, clean building. The role requires teamwork and ownership of responsibilities with the head custodian as a direct report.

Responsibilities include scrubbing restrooms, trash removal, vacuuming, floor care, window washing, and assisting with equipment and facility upkeep. The position is located in Cambridge, MD and pays hourly.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to work, with possible driver’s record check for Board-owned vehicles.
• Knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment; safety guidelines for chemicals and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning duties per shift, including bathrooms, trash removal, vacuuming, and restocking supplies.
• Inspect and perform additional housekeeping tasks, floor care, window cleaning, and general building maintenance.
• Monitor supply levels and report deficiencies to the head custodian.
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and filters, painting, and equipment inspections.
• Support the building principal, teachers, and students to maintain a clean, safe educational environment.
