Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks an Endoscopy Support role to assist during GI-endoscopic procedures, maintain room supplies and equipment, and help with post-procedure instrument reprocessing. You will work closely with RNs and physicians to ensure smooth procedural flow.

The position requires a high school diploma or related experience; an associate degree in a health-related field is preferred, and prior GI-endoscopy experience is a plus. HIPAA and safety training are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma / GED or 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
• Associate's degree in health-related field preferred.
• Prior GI-endoscopy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains procedure room supplies and endoscopic equipment and ensures adequate equipment is available.
• Performs as part of the team during GI-endoscopic procedures.
• Disassembles and reprocesses instrumentation post-procedure and documents per policy.
• Maintains effective two-way communication with patients, families and health-care team.
• May assist with special procedures under RN/MD direction (e.g., laser, wound care, line insertions).
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Acts under the direction of the Endoscopist and/or Registered Nurse during endoscopic procedures. May assist the RN in technical aspects of circulating duties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participates in the maintenance of Procedure room supplies and endoscopic equipment. Assures the integrity/condition and availability of adequate equipment.(40%)
• Functions as an integral member of the team throughout the performance of GI-endoscopic procedures. (30%)
• Disassembles and reprocesses instrumentation on a post-procedure basis as per current departmental policy. Maintains documentation as per policy. (20%)
• Maintains effective two-way communications with patients, families, and all members of the health care team.(5%)
• May assist with special procedures under the direction of the RN and MD (e.g., Yag lasers, wound care, line insertions, etc). (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

• High school diploma / GED or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• Associate's degree in health-related field.
• Prior GI-endoscopy experience.

Additional Employment Requirements:

• CPR- American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
